Keele St. Traffic ….now and the future

Heading south from under the Keele St.  Canadian Pacific Railway subway just north of Vine Ave, Sunday the 23rd of Feb.  a hole lot of bumper to bumper traffic. From the experience of this the residents of the area will have to adapt themselves for a considerable  new time lag in transverse travel time  along the maim NS Keel St travel route as the new Stockyard Mall opens the bulk of the malls stores

March 3rd the stockyards Second cup opens.

    That right lane southbound is finished. Even before this nasty winter I rode my bike in the middle of the lane to avoid ruining the wheels on the buckled pavement by the curb. Keele should be repaved between Dundas and St. Clair as soon as possible.

    The Keele and Dundas intersection is a mess. Realistically most people will be driving to the Stockyards mall so there will be more stress on Runnymede as well. The north/south flow through Dundas has to increase. One vehicle turning right or left coming south clogs everything up. Move left turn traffic down to Annette and eliminate lefts completely. The prohibiting of right turns on reds certainly has not helped.

    The 400 extension south was stopped in the 70s even though the Allendale route proposal made sense, not the others. It ran along rail lines and would have connected to the Gardiner at Strachan with ramps at Eglinton and also at Bloor.

    The biggest failure was when the city did not replace the worn out Old Weston Road bridge which provided an alternative route for traffic. Now the only choice is Keele Street.
    More recently they missed the boat (or, train!) when the Rail Grade Separation of West Toronto Diamond was undertaken. They should have dug it wider and fit a road alongside the north/south tracks. The cost would have been far less than a stand-alone underpass or bridge. Another missed opportunity due to near-sighted (blind) decision makers.
